Chu Lai port strongly develops bulk import and export services

Besides container cargo, the amount of import and export is increasing. In order to meet the needs of customers, Chu Lai port (Quang Nam) under Truong Hai International Freight Forwarding Company (THILOGI) has promoted bulk cargo exploitation services, creating favorable conditions for businesses to import and export goods, attracting and increasing the source of "footage" to the port.

Increased demand for import and export of bulk goods

Asia Creative Energy has just exported a shipment of bulk wood pellets from Chu Lai port to Japan, and within 24 hours, more than 11,000 tons of pellets were loaded safely and quickly. Since the beginning of the year, the company has exported 130,000 tons of bulk cargo through Chu Lai port.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nhat Tien - Director of Asia Creative Energy Company, the entire registration process, scheduling, loading and unloading process is strictly controlled by the port, creating favorable conditions and releasing ships quickly. Liebherr crane system is enhanced as cargo (2 to 3 cranes making goods at the same time) to help speed up the progress, save time and costs for businesses.

Chu Lai Port - the gateway to goods trade in the Central region

Mr. Phan Van Ky - Director of Chu Lai port said: "In recent years, the volume of bulk goods entering and exporting through the port has increased sharply. On average, each month we receive from 35 to 40 ships with more than 90,000 tons of cargo, mainly pellets, wood chips and items such as salt, soda, sand, limestone ... Currently, bulk cargo accounts for about 30% of all cargo through the port."

The trend of supply chain shifting has attracted many FDI enterprises to invest in the Central provinces - Central Highlands, opening up opportunities to form large production areas, increasing the demand for import and export of goods, including bulk goods. In addition, the scarcity of fuel and gas supply in the world creates great opportunities for pellets and wood chips to be exported from Vietnam, especially the Central and Central Highlands provinces (the region has advantages in producing this item thanks to abundant raw materials from wood by-products and agricultural by-products). Currently, many enterprises have long-term cooperation with Chu Lai port to import and export bulk goods such as: Asia Creative Energy Company, Phu Tai, Thanh Thanh Dat, Quang Nam paper materials ... and Sun Paper Company (Laos).

Chu Lai Port is continuing to invest in loading and unloading equipment, renovating the conveyor system, improving customer service capacity

Investment in improving the capacity of exploiting bulk goods

In recent years, import and export activities of bulk cargo have played an important role for Chu Lai port, along with containers, liquid and gas cargo, contributing to improving output and diversifying the source of "footage" through the port. In order to meet the increasing needs of customers, the port has increased investment, upgraded infrastructure, expanded the wharf; building package logistics solutions; investment in specialized equipment; applying technology and software in mining activities to improve competitiveness.

Compared to container cargo, the loading and unloading and transportation of bulk goods is often complicated and requires a lot of specialized equipment to suit the nature of each type of goods. Chu Lai Port has invested in a fleet of specialized tractors to transport goods from factories and upgrade equipment such as: Shore crane system, conveyor belt system, excavator, excavator, bulldozer, filling funnel system, bottom discharge container ... The port is also equipped with buckets - specialized equipment for loading and unloading bulk cargo with light weight and no specific structure such as ore, sand, salt, coal ... get out of the bunker easily and conveniently.Currently, Chu Lai port is completing investment procedures for the port project to welcome 5 lakh tons of ships, and at the same time coordinating with Quang Nam province to invest in building a new Cua Luo stream with a depth of -13.2m and dredging Ky Ha stream from a depth of -8.5m to -10m, ready to pick up large ships. It is expected that the new port with a length of more than 365m after being put into operation (in September 2023) will focus on serving container ships; the existing harbor area is used to exploit bulk cargo combining liquid and gas cargo... The completed projects will contribute to better meeting the import and export needs in the region; create a driving force to develop Chu Lai port to become a hub for domestic and international trade.
